Role Description

Form Energy's Cell Package Development team is searching for a skilled and experienced technical manager to lead the enhancement of cell performance in our revolutionary iron-air battery technology. As the leader of a talented team of battery engineers, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy storage.

Your responsibilities will include designing and executing experiments to integrate and optimize new components within innovative cell architectures. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including those specializing in component development, to define product-level requirements and ensure that development efforts are synchronized with overarching program and production timelines. You will oversee the development and upkeep of a technical roadmap designed to enhance cell performance.

This role demands a strong technical background, exceptional leadership abilities, and a relentless drive to push the boundaries of battery technology.

What You'll Do

  • Lead Cell Performance Optimization: Spearhead and manage structured initiatives to enhance cell performance, cost, and reliability by utilizing industry-standard methodologies such as Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with component teams to translate product-level requirements into clear and actionable specifications for individual cell components, fostering seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Manage Program Execution: Collaborate closely with the program management team to develop and maintain a comprehensive program plan, ensuring that development, testing, and validation activities are aligned with project milestones and deadlines.
  • Build and Lead a High-Performing Team: Recruit, mentor, and inspire a team of top-tier battery engineers and scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Champion Technical Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in battery technology, materials science, and manufacturing processes, and identify opportunities to incorporate cutting-edge solutions into cell design and development.
  • Communicate Results and Insights: Effectively communicate technical progress, challenges, and results to senior management, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams, providing clear and actionable insights to drive informed decision-making.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering (chemical, mechanical, electrical, or materials), materials science, chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Industry Experience: 6+ years of hands-on experience (3+ with a PhD) in battery, fuel cell, or electrochemical device development, with a proven track record of technical accomplishments and leadership in an industrial R&D environment.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of electrochemical systems, battery materials, cell design principles, and manufacturing processes, coupled with a strong understanding of electrochemical performance characterization and testing methodologies.
  • Leadership and Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire technical teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts, build consensus, and foster collaboration across diverse teams and disciplines.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Proven ability to identify and solve complex technical problems, analyze data, and draw meaningful conclusions to drive innovation and optimization.
  • Passion for Innovation: A genuine enthusiasm for advancing the field of battery technology and a strong desire to contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions.

Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy’s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, and a holistic benefits package to ensure all employees have what they need to thrive while working here.

We also offer at least 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents (up to 20 weeks for birthing parents), and generous vacation policies to give employees time to recharge when needed.
